The Main Areas of Marbella
San Pedro de Alcantara
This typically working Spanish town is located just 10km west of Marbella and only a few minutes away from the Sierra de Ronda mountain range. San Pedro has become more popular over the past few years because it provides the best of both worlds. Holidaymakers and foreign residents love the old quarter with its narrow-cobbled streets and tiny local stores. The residents are very friendly and welcoming to tourists, and the proof can be seen by taking a “walk on the boulevard”.
If you’re looking to buy property in San Pedro, you will want to go beachside. Property close to the beach in San Pedro features new urbanisations, long stretches of beach and a promenade. Enjoy a pleasant walk on the promenade, which is lined with palm trees and fabulous restaurants. Best of all, you’re not too far from the old quarter, which has a great Spanish atmosphere with lots of interesting old shops to explore. There are also plenty of tapas bars and old cafes to take full advantage of.
Also located to the west of Marbella is her sister city, Puerto Banus. Developed in the 70’s, Puerto Banus provides luxury property buyers a stunning setting that includes a mountain backdrop and uninterrupted views of the sea.
Puerto Banus is known for its glitz and as a jet set playground. It’s one city that many will visit, just to sit el fresco, whilst sipping on a cocktail watching the super-rich on their luxury yachts or driving their luxury cars. Although small, Puerto Banus makes a huge impact with many property investors taking full advantage of tourism. Around the small port side city, you will find amazing facilities and attractions that include beautiful beaches on each side of the port. Within walking distance of Puerto Banus is the residential area of Nueva Andalucia. Nueva Andalucia property is in extremely high demand. This highly sought-after area offers property buyers a peaceful and tranquil area that’s not too far from all amenities. Nueva Andalucia is close to the beaches, the perfect nightlife and the perfect base to explore the whole of the Costa del Sol.
Nueva Andalucia centres around a bullring then spreads out, where you can head down to the port or head up to golf valley. If you head up, you can eventually see the backdrop of the “Sierra de Ronda Mountain range”.
Even though Nueva Andalucia is residential you can still head out to the local shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, hairdressers, casinos and gift shops. There is also a fabulous market every Saturday morning in the Centro Plaza that sprawls down into Puerto Banus.
Although Nueva Andalucia doesn’t have a long history or Spanish culture, you can easily head up to the mountain town of Benahavis or even take a trip to Ronda where ancient history awaits you. Estepona is only a 20-minute drive as well.
The Golden Mile
The Golden Mile or rather, Marbella’s Golden Mile, begins at the western edge of Marbella city and then extends about 5km as far as the Rio Verde just before Puerto Banus. Some of Marbella’s early luxury developments were established on the Golden Mile, like the Marbella Club Hotel and the Puente Romano district, which includes the very popular Puente Romano Hotel.
Buying a property on the Golden Mile means golden sandy beaches with luxury beach front homes. The Golden mile Marbella is an area rich in extravagance and holds some of the city’s most luxurious and well-appointed villas and houses.
Thanks to the Marbella Club Hotel, it’s a meeting place for royalty and celebrity. The hotel marked it’s spot, and built a reputation as a premiere vacation spot.
